When SHD were appointed interior designers on the Standard Hotel, East Village, they sought to reconcile the towering glass building with its historic Cooper Square neighborhood. While the rooms were left purposefully bright and open to sweeping skyline views, they introduced a warmer mood to the ground floor public spaces. With its natural palette of materials, the hotel restaurant, Narcissa, references the Upstate New York farm producing its ingredients. At street level, Cafe Standard evokes the relaxed informality of the East Village itself.
