Returning to renovate the hotel fifteen years on, it was important to us to celebrate what was working and update what needed improving. The ground floor cafe sought to reinforce the Scandinavian aesthetic throughout the building with a tropical flourish. Like the interiors of iconic Finnish designer Alvar Aalto, who paired blond woods with woven grasses and cane furniture, we accented classic Danish furniture by the likes of Borge Mogensen with a playful spin. There’s a characterful fibre pendant replete with dangling monkeys by Mexican designer, Mario Lopez Torres, & a vintage wall hanging rug with the surreal artwork of Corneille. The bar is inspired by the classic mid century designs of Arthur Umanoff and imparts joyful pops of colour that marry with the custom made enamel tops.
