In 2019, SHD were asked to design the new seaside outpost of Los Angeles’ icon Little Dom’s in the Southern California beach town of Carpinteria. For Little Dom’s Seafood, we sought to recreate the timeless feel of the Los Feliz institution with some nods to the coastal location. Elements such as the 1930s style lacquered wood bar and detailed wall panelling are lightened with the seafoam toned floor and aqua tiled border at the facade. It’s designed to feel simultaneously special & humble. The Hollywood booths, weathered Pelican sculpture and vintage lighting fixtures add an aura of authenticity and transport diners out of time. We sought to create an instant local landmark, a place for locals and visitors alike to gather in and to feel like they’re in a neighbourhood spot that’s been there forever.
